Congratulations U18 Man Utd for winning the U18 League Cup after defeating U18 Man City in the final with a score of 2-1. Watch Highlights and championship celebrations
After securing the U18 Premier League North title, Adam Lawrence’s side collected another title and beat Manchester City’s U18s 2-1 today at Leigh Sports Village with a brilliant performance. We take a look at the action below.
Manchester United were off to a flying start after a brilliant volley from Ethan Wheatley put the Reds up 1-0 in the 7th minute. The young striker took a touch from the ball over his shoulder and struck it sweetly past the City keeper. This goal was his 8th in the U18 PL Cup alone.
Ethan Wheatley doubled his tally and United’s lead with a great finish in the 25th minute. James Nolan slipped a great ball in behind, and Wheatley rounded the keeper to finish for 2-0. Make that nine goals in the Cup for the English striker.
Manchester United took the 2-0 lead into half behind the two fantastic goals from Wheatley, and some fine stops in goal from Elyh Harrison.
Ethan Wheatley, Harry Amass, and Louis Jackson were withdrawn at half under instruction from Erik Ten Hag, who wants each available to potentially play a part against Sheffield United.
Manchester City hit back in the 85th minute through Stephen Mfuni from a header off a corner kick. City had been the better side in the second half up to this point and finally made their dominance count.
After the City goal, the young Reds were forced back to defend and defend they did. The back line stepped up, and Elyh Harrison provided a massive save to secure the 2-1 victory and the title.
The win over Manchester City adds to the U18 side’s achievements after they won the North Division a week ago. While there are a few league games left, all eyes will be on the upcoming Final against (most likely) Chelsea.
