Military expert Pavlo Narozhniy recently spoke on the Kanal 24 TV channel about the transfer of Soviet MiG-29 missile launchers to Ukraine by Poland and Slovakia. Narozhniy opined that instead of MiG-29s, Ukraine needs US F-16 fighter jets to fight Russia.

Narozhniy acknowledges that the MiG-29 is a good aircraft but is technologically outdated. While the MiG-29 can bolster the Ukrainian Air Force and fight air-to-air combat, its outdated technology endangers pilots. Modern Russian warplanes, including the F-16, have developed technology to bypass radar. On the other hand, the smoke produced by the two engines of the MiG-29 makes it noisy, which makes it easier to detect.

F-16: a more modern fighter planeFor his part, the military expert points out that the F-16 is a more modern and versatile aircraft that can attack land, air, and sea targets with anti-ship missiles. Also, its platform makes future upgrades easy, which is not the case with the MiG-29. He also points out that the F-16 has a stealth compartment in the cockpit, covered in a thin gold film shielding avionics from radar radiation.

In short, Narozhniy believes that the F-16 is a more complete and advanced combat aircraft than the MiG-29 and that it would allow Ukraine to defend itself more effectively against the Russian threat.

The transfer of the MiG-29s does not affect the interests of the United States, so it is not surprising that the government in Washington has not intervened in Poland’s decision to give up its Soviet aircraft.
