A devoted mother otter has discovered an innovative method to keep her pup dry by allowing it to lie on her tummy.
Suzi Eszterhas, a nature photographer, documented the moment when she observed endearing sea otters swimming in California’s Monterey Bay.

She observed the mother otter remove her pup from the water and position it on her abdomen to keep it warm and dry.

The mother even used air to groom her puppy’s fur.
The California-based nature photographer stated, “I’ve been photographing sea otters for over 20 years, so I know them well.”

“Most sea otters are quite timid with their young, but this mother was very accustomed to everyone, and she was quite at ease as she cuddled with her young in a congested harbor.”

Occasionally, she swam directly up to the jetty and allowed her pup to float in the water in front of me while she searched for sustenance.

“She did this repeatedly; I felt like a caretaker.” It was endearing and demonstrated how vulnerable and dependable untamed animals are.

California is home to approximately 3,000 sea otters, all of which are descendants of fifty robust otter colonies discovered in 1938.

This species is classified as endangered, despite accelerated global conservation efforts.
