Selena Gomez put a retro spin on one of this season’s hottest hues — pink — while attending a Rare Beauty launch event in New York on Saturday.
The singer and actress channeled 1960s style in a pastel paisley print dress by Versace, which she paired with stilettos featuring the Italian label’s trademark Medusa logo. Gomez also added on a powder pink wool coat by Staud, completing her look with starburst diamond jewels by APM Monaco.
Stylist Erin Walsh, who also counts Anne Hathaway and Jessica Alba as clients, dressed Gomez for the occasion.
Hairdresser Orlando Pita styled Gomez’s brunette tresses in a retro bouffant, while makeup artist Hung Vanngo gave the “Only Murders in the Building” star winged eyeliner and a coral lip — both emblematic of 1960s makeup trends.
Speaking to WWD about the launch of Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Luminous Powder Blush, Gomez explained why she decided to debut a new formula.
“People have been asking for a Rare Beauty powder blush for years, so we thought it was the perfect time to give them what they want,” Gomez said. “It’s the perfect balance between vibrant color and radiant shine.”
Additionally, she broke down the process of developing her latest product.
“We really wanted the pigment you get from our liquid blush but the glassy sheen from the Silky Touch Highlighter so it took several rounds to make sure the finished formula hit both of those points,” Gomez continued.
After Barbie pink took the last two years by storm, paler shades are poised for popularity this season. Designers including Simone Rocha, Cecilie Bahnsen and Tory Burch sent powder pink garments down the runway during their spring 2024 presentations, with the celebrity set swiftly following suit: Sydney Sweeney and Hunter Schafer experimented with rosy pastel hues at a Laneige pop-up event and The Hollywood Reporter’s Power Stylists dinner, respectively.
