Dramis International, Simard Suspensions Off Road department, presents its new mining truck, the D150T, imagined, designed, manufactured and assembled by our teams.

The Dramis D150T meets point by point the specifications imposed by the driving conditions of the truck:

The truck must haul 150 metric tons of Gold ore over a distance of 144 kms back and forth, on a road made of crushed rocks with 8% slopes and also has to cruise at 50 km/h loaded.

The D150T operates in a mine located in the Kivalliq region of Nunavut, Canada’s Great North, where temperatures can drop below 45  degrees Celsius.

Consequently, each element has been designed or selected to provide the best performance, maximizing reliability and security.

DRAMIS D150T specifications :

  • Kenworth C500 chassis
  • X15 Engine : 605 Hp, 2050 Lb-Ft
  • Alisson 6620A automatic transmission
  • Namco auxilary transmission
  • AMS50THD 50 000 lbs front twin steer suspension
  • DTS 135 000 lbs rear hydraulic suspension
  • Rear Planetary axles
  • Dump Bodies : 2 x 40m3

When looking at this design, one immediately thinks of a warship – with its bow and handrails. Why you need a solid fence “on the nose” of the new Dramis D150T tractor is not clear. After all, it will operate on a 140-kilometer technological stretch in northern Canada and will not be serviced in the field but in a fully equipped hangar.

The tractor was built by a division of local suspension manufacturer Simard. The heart of the machine is the chassis of the Kenworth C500 all-terrain vehicle, the kind of car that we oil and gas people know. The rear “tridem” suspension is hydraulic, with a load capacity of 62 tons. The two front drive axles are also separate drive types, with a capacity of 22.6 tons. The road train is powered by a Cummins X15 diesel engine with a capacity of 605 hp. through the Allison 6620 “automatic” box. The total mass of the road train with two oversized trailers is 150 tons.

By the way, the first 5-axle ore truck SRH450, built in 1996, had the same components (engine and axle). Under the order of a Swedish mining company, Sisu has developed a 171 ton trailer complex with a load capacity of 120 tons. Furthermore, with a 10×4 wheel arrangement, the tractor has three rotating axles, the second and fifth (reverse rotation) bearing dual busbars.
