Garnacho’s stunning goal against Everton was officially honored with the best goal award of the season in the Premier League season 2023/2024

England 19-year-old midfielder Alejandro Garnacho leaned back and hooked the ball back to open the score, when Man Utd beat host Everton 3-0 in round 13 of the Premier League.

In the 3rd minute, defender Diogo Dalot crossed the ball from the right wing to the left side of Everton’s penalty area, slightly correcting Garnacho. The 19-year-old midfielder turned around, then leaned back and hooked the ball to a high far corner, causing goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to fly as far as he could but couldn’t touch it. After the ball entered the net, Garnacho danced to the familiar dance of his idol Cristiano Ronaldo.

Garnacho also made an expression implying that the goal was a masterpiece by waving his fingers. He is the youngest Man Utd player to score at Goodison Park, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s record. And Garnacho’s goal also reminds of Rooney’s masterpiece against Man City in February 2011, or Ronaldo’s hook against Juventus in April 2018.

Garnacho was born in Madrid, Spain, but has an Argentinian mother so he plays for this team. He was a product of the Getafe and Atletico training facilities, before joining Man Utd at the age of 16. The hook brought the first goal for Garnacho in the Premier League this season.

Apart from Garnacho’s masterpiece, Man Utd’s attack did not create any clear opportunities in the first half, while Everton squandered a series of opportunities. Notably in the 32nd minute, goalkeeper Andre Onana saved twice from Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s shot, before midfielder Kobbie Mainoo ducked the ball on the goal line from Jack Harrison’s shot. Mainoo is only 18 years old, his first start in the Premier League, but appears mature every time he has the ball.

Everton played fiercely, pressing with high intensity, a few days after being deducted 10 points for violating Financial Fair Play rules. The Goodison Park audience protested by whistling and booing every time the referee made an unfavorable decision against the homeowner. By the 10th minute, tens of thousands of spectators held up a sign with the Premier League logo and the word “corruption”.

The Everton audience became even more indignant when the home team was awarded a penalty in the 52nd minute. Referee John Brooks initially gave Anthony Martial a yellow card because he thought the striker fell in the penalty area. But VAR intervened to make Mr. Brooks realize that defender Ashley Young had tripped Martial, so he removed the yellow card and awarded a penalty to the away team.

Young had received a yellow card before, but still argued with the referee. However, the Man Utd player came to stop the 38-year-old defender so he could avoid receiving another yellow card. Young played for Man Utd from 2011-2020, and has just played for Everton since this season.

The penalty knocked out Everton’s fighting spirit, because Marcus Rashford did not miss the opportunity to shoot 11m into the top left corner to increase the score to 2-0. He ended a streak of nearly three months of failure at Man Utd, and initially had no intention of celebrating. However, his teammates pushed Rashford back to the home crowd area, then he shouted to relieve himself.

Another Man Utd striker also cut the losing streak, Martial, with the goal that tied the score in the 75th minute. Receiving a pass from Bruno Fernandes, the French striker rushed down to face the goalkeeper and flicked the ball past Pickford into the net. net. This is Martial’s first goal in three months, and Everton continues to be his favorite bait, because this is the ninth match he has scored against this opponent.

The victory at Goodison Park helped Man Utd return to the Top 6 of the Premier League, with six points less than Arsenal’s top spot. The team’s goal difference returned to zero thanks to the big win. Moreover, all three players on the attack quenched their thirst for goals, even though coach Erik ten Hag had to sit in the stands due to being banned from directing. This is the motivation for them to find three points on Galatasaray’s field, in the penultimate round of the Champions League group stage on Wednesday evening, November 29.
