André Onana has ‘silenced his critics’ despite Brentford draw, says Man Utd legend
Manchester United legend Gary Pallister has praised one player who has “silenced his critics” following the club’s 1-1 draw with Brentford on Saturday evening.
The Reds dropped two points against a Brentford side that ultimately deserved to win against Erik ten Hag’s side on the weekend.
Despite Mason Mount’s late goal, the visiting side’s performance at the Gtech Community Stadium was one of the worst of the season.
After conceding 31 shots, 23 of which came from inside the box, United could not complain when the ball found the back of the net in the last moments of the game.
However, one player who could not be blamed was André Onana. The goalkeeper made four saves in the game, including a crucial double-stop to avoid what looked to be a certain goal for The Bees.
The Cameroon shot-stopper started with difficulties at Old Trafford earlier in the season, particularly in the Champions League, but has really raised his levels in recent months.
His form has also been impressive considering the team’s form, and the current approach does not seem to utilise his excellent ball-playing abilities enough.
Gary Pallister, who worked alongside United’s goalkeeping legend Peter Schmeichel, has praised Onana for his efforts in recent months after another standout display in the Brentford draw.
Speaking on MUTV, as per UnitedInFocus, Pallister explained: “[It was] good goalkeeping from Onana, he made some good saves.
“He had a difficult start to his career, the focus and spotlight was on Onana, but over the past few months he’s got stronger and stronger, he’s pulling off some important saves.
“He’s silenced quite a few critics over the past few months and he was man of the match tonight.”
